The mission of the Physical Education and Sports Department (DAPS) is to organise and manage all PE and sporting activities at the Institut National Polytechnique in Toulouse.

This mission can be divided into three sectors :
1. Compulsory PE and Sports lessons
2. The INP Toulouse Sports Association
3. Student-run sporting events

Sport is an integral part of the teaching course at the INP Toulouse since its benefits are twofold:

- a diverse range of activities enabling the students to discover new sports
- through sport students learn how to react to situations and take action, these are essential transferable skills for their professional careers.

Compulsory PE and Sports lessons

Each week, the 1,800 INP students who are studying for an engineering degree devote two weeks to sport. A maximum effort is made to provide a great number and variety of sports so that students will be able to choose activities which interest them and for which they are likely to receive a good mark at the end of the courses. Since evaluation is not the main objective, we encourage the students to opt for sports that are relatively new to them in order to widen their sporting horizons. Students with a great deal of sporting experience often volunteer to work alongside the PE teachers, thus learning to coach their peers over the course of a few lessons.

The INP Toulouse Sports Association

Prioritising sports at a competitive level, the principle activity of the Sports Association (AS) is preparatory training for the championships organised by the French Federation of University Sports. With the emphasis on training, the main objective of the meetings is to enable the students to experience competitive sport corresponding to their level of expertise. Thus, competitions are more a method of training students than a question of results. Those involved in the Sports Association gain valuable skills such as successful cooperation, taking responsibility and organising and managing a team. The PE teachers accompany the students for the duration of the sporting season.

Student-run sporting events

Dynamic and full of ideas for new projects, the students organise various sporting events and tournaments throughout the academic year. The "Inpiades" and the ski week are recurring events, which mobilise all the students and allow them meet those studying at the other INP institutions.
The Sports Bureau (BDS) at each individual institution organises internal sports projects to keep the students amused.
It is the students themselves who instigate the different events and the PE teachers take on the role of advisors and co-organisers.
